2019 Region 13 Youth Scholarship Winner!

Since her debut in leadline at age two, Alexa McVoy has been successful inside and outside of the Arabian show ring.  She has won several regional and national titles on her horse JD Cruise Control and is now looking forward to getting back in the show ring with new prospects.  She also promotes the kind and caring breed by using them for a yearly summer camp she started for at-risk girls, as well as for teaching riding lessons to a 84-year old lady.  Through high school, she stayed busy participating in 9 student clubs including National Honor Society, with leadership positions in many of them.  Alexa has a passion for helping others.  She was the recipient of the Michigan Governor's Service Learning Award for dedicating her time to her community with over 600 service hours documented throughout high school.  In addition, she graduated high school with a 4.3 GPA and ranked 4th out of 417 students.  She plans to follow in the footsteps of her mother and cousin by going to Grand Valley State University to study social work in hopes of becoming an equine-assisted psychotherapist.  With this career path, she plans to use the Arabian horses she loves so much to help at-risk youth who have suffered from trauma.  With this future, she is excited to give her Arabian horses the experience of both a blanket of roses and a pair of children's arms wrapped around their necks.
